A World Museum of Images in Books

Dr. Heribert Tenschert may be better known as a dealer of precious medieval manuscripts, but it has always been his love for collecting that has steered him on his path. Since he started his business in 1977, he has assembled some of the world’s most significant collections in several areas: truly, a ‘World Museum of Images’. Below are some brief introductions to the extraordinary collections that are available for sale only en bloc.

The Sweetness of Life

The most significant collection of illustrated books of the 18th century: around 2,500 editions in roughly 7,500 volumes, this collection of French livres à figures from the 18th century brings together mostly the finest copies of these works, in addition no less than 240 of them even include the original drawings: all in all, there are close to 4,000 of them in our collection by all of the important draftsmen and painters of the time.

The Will to Glory:
Emperor Maximilian I

The legacy of Emperor Maximilian I (1459-1519) is presented in this unique collection of his books, including five copies - three on vellum - of the greatest German book of the Renaissance, the Theuerdank from 1517.
